Five Ways to Make your Website More Accessible

According to Forbes, a new website is built every three seconds. And with websites being so common, yours must be easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to find value in. One of the ways to do this is to make sure your website is accessible.

Here are three ways to improve your website's usability:

#1) Alt text: Alternative text supplies a description of a visual image and is commonly used for folks who are blind or seeing impaired. The description helps people still experience the pictures or design by listening to the description. It can also help with SEO!

Here is an example of alt text. Notice how you can imagine the image without having to see it.

An image with the broken image logo and it says "Tourist pose for pictures while touching the foot of the John Harvard statue"

#2) Meaningful sequence: Be sure your website has a meaningful sequence to its structure. Your website should be simple to follow, not with random sentences or content places about. Group your content into categories that are easy to navigate through.

#3) Captions and audio descriptions: All audio should have captions and audio descriptions! This will not only make it more accessible to folks who are deaf or hard of hearing but it also means your content can be enjoyed at any time, whether someone can have the volume turned up or not.
